Home Team Responsibilities
As the home coach, you get the "home field advantage" but along with that comes added responsibilities as the host team. Below are some responsibilities you will need to remember:
- provide parking for officials close to the field - if close parking isn't available, arrange to have a school administrator escort officials in a golf cart
- an on-site administrator 30 minutes prior to game, during entire game and 30 minutes after game
- required paperwork presented to officials prior to game in order for them to receive payment
- an accurately marked field with visible lines
- water for both teams AND officials
- 6 cones or pylons (4 corners and 2 for sub box)
- 2 lacrosse goals with tightly fastened nets free from rips and tears (have extra zip ties on hand for repairs)
- if there are holes in the field, fill in with sand or soil
- scorers table with at least 2 chairs at the 50 yd line 4 m from sideline in between team bench area
- Alternate Opposition Indicator: a pylon cone works great
- 4 m of clear space around all boundaries. This includes coaches, players, scorer's table and spectators.
- It's helpful to keep an extra can of paint by the scorers table for each game in case certain areas need touch up (goal line, center line and hash marks especially)
- scorekeeper
- timer - if scoreboard does not have a working horn, you must have an air horn
Crowd control: The USL Sportmanship Card Program
Hopefully your fans show good sportsmanship and honor the game. Unfortunately it only takes "one bad apple" to ruin it for the rest. The Sportsmanship Card is designed to be a preventative tool, not a punitive device. It is a warning given to an individual coach, athlete, fan, or group of fans. Most often, the Sportsmanship Card program, if administered in a non-threatening fashion, will correct the unacceptable, unsportsmanlike behavior that threatens to ruin the game.
